Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz (1946
? August 21, 1999) was the eldest son of Fahd of Saudi Arabia. He
served as Minister of Labor and Minister of Youth, and was president or
chairman of many bodies relating to sport.He studied at the University of California, graduating in 1971. In that year, he became Chairman of the Saudi Football Federation. He became Chairman of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee in 1975, and Chairman of the Arab Games Federation in 1976. He became a member of the International Olympic Committee in 1984. He was also president of the Arabian Football Union, Arab Football Union, and head of the National Committee on Drugs Control. He also served internationally as president of the International Swimming Association.

On Saturday, August 21, 1999 the Royal Court issued a statement that Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz had died of a heart attack at the age of 54, and that funeral prayers would be said for him on Sunday, August 22 at the Imam Turki Bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh. He is survived by two sons, Nawaf and Khalid, and three daughters.

Prince Faisal graduated from the University of California in the USA
in 1971. From 1974 he had been President of the General Presidency for
Youth Welfare (GPYW). In 1975 he became Chairman of the Saudi Arabian
Olympic Committee, and in 1976, Chairman of the Arab Games Federation.
That same year, he became Chairman of the Arab Football Federation,
having chaired the Saudi Football Federation since 1971. From 1981 he
chaired the Sports Federation for Islamic Solidarity, and from 1982, the
International Committee for the Preservation of the Legacy of Islamic
Civilization. Since 1979 he had chaired the Kingdom’s Supreme Committee
for the Merit in Literature Prize. In 1984 he joined the International
Olympic Committee. He had been Chairman of the Saudi Arabian Society for
Youth Hostels since 1973, and since 1984, had chaired the National
Anti-Drug Committee. In 1992, he became Chairman of the Saudi Federation
of Sports for the Disabled.
During his career, Prince Faisal received a number of honors, both
from the Kingdom and from abroad. These include the King Abdul Aziz Sash
(First Class) presented to him by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques
King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz in 1993; the Medal from the Throne presented by
King Hassan of Morocco in 1985; the Republican Medal (First Class) from
President Habib Bourguiba in 1986; the Kuwait Medal from Sheikh Jaber
Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah in 1993; the gold medal of the Tunisian magazine
‘African’s Hero’ in 1983; the fellowship certificate of the
International Scouting Movement in 1993; and the Medal of the
International Handball Federation in 1997.
Over Saturday and Sunday, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd
Bin Abdul Aziz, who is currently in Marbella in Spain, received calls
and cables of condolence from all over the world, as did Crown Prince
Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of
the National Guard, and Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy
Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector-General.
These included messages from King Muhammad VI of Morocco, King Abdullah of Jordan,
King Juan Carlos of Spain, President Jacques Chirac of France, Sheikh
Hamad Bin Issa Al-Khalifa of Bahrain, Sultan Qaboos of Oman, President
Abdulaziz Boutaflika of Algeria, President of Tunisia, Palestinian
President Arafat, Syrian President Hafez Al-Asad, President of Iran
Mohammad Khatami, Egyptian President President Abdu Diouf of Senegal,
President Emil Lehud of Lebanon, and President Ali Abdullah Saleh of
Yemen.
At the funeral prayers on Sunday, those in attendance included Heir Apparent of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Prince Hamza Bin Hussein, who was received by Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz. Today it was announced that the inaugural ceremony for the 12th World Handball Championship, scheduled to be held on Sunday August 22, had been postponed until September 5, 1999, as a mark of respect for Prince Faisal.
